Activities in Ely, Nevada and The Great Basin

Welcome to the Jailhouse Motel and Casino. Established in 1975 by Norman Goeringer, the "Jailhouse," as it is commonly referred, has accommodated many guest. If Ely is your destination of choice and you have come to enjoy the many recreational opportunities, historical markers or just some good ole fashioned small town hospitality, let us be your starting point. If you're doing business or just a passerby on your way to some place elsewhere, we would love to have you be our guest as well. It can be a long way from here to anywhere so come on in and relax in one of our 60 spacious rooms, get a meal at either our café or steakhouse, enjoy a drink at our sports bar or lounge and try your luck at any one of our slot machines, video poker, or other games.

Though Ely can be considered somewhat remote, we prefer to think of ourselves as centrally located. As is common out west, long distances can be the norm from one town to the next. Having said this, hospitable accommodating towns such as ours are the perfect place to forget the driving for a while. Found at the junction of highway 50, highway 6 and route 93 we aren't difficult to find. Once you're here just follow the signs to be directed down main street into the heart of historic downtown.

To better take advantage of your time here in Ely, we have highlighted some activities and events we find noteworthy.

As a small town in rural Nevada, many activities can be found out on the range. The most obvious places to enjoy what nature has to offer is by visiting an area designated just for that. These spots include Great Basin National Park, Cave Lake State Park or one of the many Forest Service and BLM managed areas. Activities range from camping, hiking, hunting and fishing, horseback riding, motorsports, biking, skiing, caving and swimming.

Historical Ely

As Remote as Ely is it has preserved some of the past and allows visitors the opportunity to travel back in time, in a sense, to get a feel for how the wild west really was. If you're a history buff, then Ely is a must visit.
